Top Leftfield Music Festivals in America

With dance music taking over the nightclubs and festivals of America and beyond, we thought we’d offer up a more leftfield selection of gatherings in the United States if you prefer your sounds of the more eclectic variety.

For every Electric Daisy Carnival there will always be a smaller, boutique festival that will be offering up a truly totally different from the norm. Here’s a little breakdown of a few saucy shindigs that will well be worth a visit in 2014 if you prefer your weekends to be spent away from the glow sticks!

Into its 11th year now, the Decibel Festival in Seattle is a true hot bed of underground action that we at the Garnish Music Production School are planning on making the pilgrimage to.  With a sublime booking line up that includes the likes of Kode9, Lindstrom, Sango, Shadow Child, Soul Clap and Ritchie Hawtin, this is a real connoisseurs weekend of debauchery to listen to the twisted sounds of the underground. Even if you’re not planning on attending be sure to check out their website as there’s a host of top quality DJ mixes available.

Satchmo Summer Fest, New Orleans – 3–5th August 2014

If you’re in New Orleans this summer be sure to check out the amazing Satchmo free street festival in the French Quarter in honour of the late, great Louis Armstrong. With dancing in the street for three days and amazing Creole cooking available, this three day party is a real blend of soul, blues and jazz. Beats the Mardi Gras hands down!

Just four little tips of fun filled festivals that offer something different to the norm. Having visited the Satchmo Festival last year in New Orleans, it’s safe to say you don’t need to spend a fortune to find a good party. Sometimes, they are even free!
