Unlike what we’ve seen in Analog that only uses a few basic waveforms as a source, Wavetable has two special type oscillators that contain hundreds of different waveforms organized in wavetable categories. This gives us an inspiring starting point for a wide variety of sounds right from the get go.
Wavetable categories refer to the different types of wavetables that are available in a wavetable synthesizer. A wavetable is a sample containing multiple periodic waveforms that often are arranged in an order that allows for smooth and complex transitions when changing the wavetable position.
Exploring the wavetable categories is a great way to start using the Wavetable synth as they make for a great starting point for creating a wide variety of sounds and often already sound great by themselves even without a lot of processing.
Categories
Basic, collection, complex, distortion, filter, formant, harmonics, instrument, noise, retro, vintage and user vs. Analog, Digital, Spectral, User and Vowel.
Ableton’s wavetable categories can be accessed from a pulldown menu inside each oscillator.
Each category contains a varying number wavetables.
