Sampler: Create the ultimate drum rack
Create the ultimate Drum Rack using Sample Select
The Sample Select feature in Ableton Live can be used to select from multiple loaded samples that are mapped across the keyboard and you can then macro map the blue Selector tool and change sounds on the fly. After choosing Select in the Zone editor, distribute the ranges and move the blue selector tool to select a sample for playback.

This technique can also be used to create the ultimate Drum Rack by mapping all your different kicks, snares, hats etc the same way.
- After you have distributed the ranges, group Sampler to a Drumrack using the group command by ctrl clicking on the Sampler’s title bar and then macro map the selector.

- With Macro1 you can now “dial in” from your favorite kicks to find the one that works best for the beat at hand.
- Repeat the same process for your favorites snares, hats, claps or percussion sounds after placing a different Sampler in each Cell of the Drumrack,
- Save the Drum Rack as a preset so you can easily access it in future projects.
This is a powerful tool for electronic music producers, allowing them to quickly audition and select their favorite sounds while the drums are playing. You could even automate the selector’s macro control to change drum sounds in the middle of a pattern.
