AUX Env and LFOs
AUX Env and LFOs are powerful modulation tools available in Ableton’s Sampler. They allow you to shape and modulate the sound of your samples in various ways.
The AUX Env is a dedicated envelope that can be used to modulate various parameters such as filter cutoff, pitch, amplitude, and more. To use the AUX Env in Sampler, click on the “AUX Env” button in the modulation section. You can then adjust the shape and parameters of the envelope using the controls provided.
LFOs or Low-Frequency Oscillators, on the other hand, can be used to create cyclic modulation of parameters such as pitch, filter cutoff, and amplitude. To use LFOs in Sampler, click on the “LFO” button in the modulation section. You can then choose from a variety of waveforms and adjust the rate and intensity of the modulation.
LFO 1 is hardwired by default to Volume, Filter, Pan and Pitch
Both AUX Env and LFO 2/3 can be routed to various parameters using the A and B modulation destination selectors, allowing for complex sound design possibilities.
To create short Sampler loops for granular effects with LFO modulation for loop start and length in Ableton’s Sampler, you can follow these steps:
Drag and drop a short audio file into Sampler’s main window to load it into the device.
In the Sample tab, create a short loop and adjust the Loop Start and Loop Length parameters to define the loop range within the sample.
Loop mode to “Forward” or “Ping Pong” depending on the desired looping behavior.
In the Modulation tab, activate LFO 2/3 and set its Rate, Shape, and Amount parameters to modulate the Loop Start and Loop Length parameters.
Adjust the modulation, rate, shape and amount as desired while also tweaking loop start and length under the Sample tab. Apply crossfade for a smoother pad-like sound.
You can further experiment with other modulation sources, envelope shapes, and LFO rates and shapes to create different granular effects and rhythmic variations.
